I didn't have to walk the dogs this morning, because Ingrid, Brenda, and I took the whole day off, and D'Arcy was in charge of the dogs. He loves this task.

We set off on the same route as yesterday, with a cork factory as our destination. We stopped several times to take photos and really enjoyed seeing the many storks on the power poles and in the flooded fields. The sun was shining beautifully. We also stopped at a market and bought some delicious cakes, mangoes, potatoes, olives, and smoked sausage (next week, on our last evening, I will make potato casserole for our farewell dinner).

We stopped for lunch at a place where there were no tourists, only locals sitting at tables covered with red and white checkered tablecloths. There were three menus to choose from, and we ordered the thick fish soup (or thin fish stew). The waitress spoke English very nicely, her mother cooked in the kitchen, and her husband was behind the counter. They were a very nice, smiling family, and everything was delicious.

After hundreds of twists and turns, we arrived at our destination. There was no guided tour today, but they showed us a film about how they strip the bark from the trees, straighten it, and process it. Fascinating! And how many things can be made from it?! Of course, I couldn't resist buying a bag, which I carry across my shoulder, but in front, so I can keep an eye on it. It's waterproof, lightweight, pretty, and I'm supporting the Portuguese economy. I also bought a glasses case, because I accidentally threw my old one away when I was packing up the house.

Unfortunately, I caught D'Arcy's cold: I'm sneezing and blowing my nose. Oh, I really didn't need this!!!
I have to eat to boost my immune system. Luckily, I have a good appetite here, and either Ingrid cooks (she loves to cook, Hallelujah!!!) or we go to a nice little place. I've lost so much weight lately that I can only lie on my back. Lying on my side hurts, the bed presses on my hip bone. But I feel like I'll be able to pull myself together here and put on 4-5 kilos. That would be enough.

I really like what I've seen of Portugal so far! Of course, there are some run-down areas and houses here too, but the landscape is beautiful, the people are very friendly, and the food is delicious and varied. And the atmosphere is great. It's a real breath of fresh air!

We got home after half past four, I fed the kids, and then I had some free time. So much free time that I can't even remember what I did. It must have been good.

For dinner, we had sausages and pork belly cooked on the grill, the latter crispy, with delicious potatoes and grilled eggplant. Then, of course, we played rummy cub. My confidence completely evaporated; I haven't won a single game since I've been here. Luckily, I enjoy playing even without confidence.
