I woke up very early, since I was already in bed by 9:15 PM. In the evening I asked D’Arcy and the others what time they usually get up. Between 9 and 10. Wow, good for them!
I got up at 7, let the dogs out, fed them breakfast, then I got ready too and tried to catch up with writing down our adventures. Oh, and Gerbeaud and I went for a walk to get fresh rolls, and I also bought four pieces of the famous Portuguese dessert: “Pastel de Nata” = Portuguese custard tart. Soooo delicious!
After breakfast we all went to the ocean. The sky was cloudy and of course the wind was blowing, but it wasn’t cold. Down on the beach I let the dogs off the leash and Gerbeaud was so happy about the great freedom that I was afraid he’d run off into the great nothing. No matter how much I whistled, no matter how much I shouted his name. He was so happy that he could finally run that he was like a wild little foal. Of course, after a while he slowed down and I caught up with him, and then when I called him, he came over too, but he did scare me a bit. I put the leash on him and we walked back to the others. We also saw a shellfish fisherman—it's really interesting how they do it. And of course I collected different seashells. There are so many different kinds and they’re insanely cool.
We went back to our accommodation through a small wooded area. Very interesting plants, cactus, flowers, trees.
After the walk we left the doggies at home and went shopping at Aldi. In the evening we had dinner in Vila Real de Santo António; I ate grilled calamari it was heavenly. Oh, how I love it!!! We washed it down with some nice white wine. At home we played rummy. We didn’t stand a chance against Ingrid—she’s a real, true pro! I have to pull myself together, no two ways about it.
